Non-touristy Rome
Areas that are less touristy but rich in history, without the crowds or the rush.
What awaits you
We will explore some of Rome’s lesser-known yet incredibly atmospheric and historic neighborhoods, where you can experience the authentic rhythm of the city away from the crowds and rush. Our journey begins at the Pyramid of Cestius, an unusual Egyptian-style tomb built in the 1st century BC. From there, we will visit the Non-Catholic Cemetery, one of the most romantic places in Rome, where poets, artists, and philosophers found their final resting place, including John Keats. Next, we will head to Aventine Hill, one of Rome’s most charming areas with breathtaking views. We will stroll through the Orange Garden, admire one of the city’s most beautiful panoramas, and peek through the famous Keyhole of the Knights of Malta, which perfectly frames the dome of St. Peter’s Basilica. Along the way, we will see the legendary Mouth of Truth, the ancient stone mask said to reveal liars, as well as the Basilica of Santa Maria in Cosmedin, built on the remains of ancient Roman structures. We will then walk through the area of the Forum Boarium, surrounded by some of Rome’s oldest temples, before ending our tour on Tiber Island. Once home to a temple dedicated to Asclepius, the god of medicine, the island remains a unique place where the history of Ancient Rome blends seamlessly with modern city life.
